Gloucester County School Board announces board appointment procedures
Letters of interest from qualified candidates are now being accepted by the Gloucester County School Board for the Gloucester Point District Seat left vacant by the recent death of Jean Pugh.
Candidates must be registered voters of the Gloucester Point District.
Letters should be submitted by Friday, Nov. 9 and must include a statement of qualifications, as well of letters of support from registered voters of the Gloucester Point District. Letters should be submitted to Ms. Diane Clements Gamache, Clerk of the Gloucester County School Board, Administrative Offices, Building Two, 6489 Main St., Gloucester, VA, 23061.
All applicants will have the opportunity to address the school board at a meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Remarks will be limited to 10 minutes or less and can introduce up to two supporters from the district who can speak for five minutes or less on the applicant's behalf.
Interviews with the candidates will be held during a closed meeting at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29 in Conference Room 305 of the Administrative Offices, 6489 Main St., Gloucester. Following the meeting, it's anticipated that the appointment will be made.
The appointed member will take an oath of office and attend the meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
The term for the newly-appointed member runs from Dec. 11, 2012 to Dec. 31, 2013.
Dr. Pugh's term expires on Dec. 31, 2015. A general election will be held in Nov. 2013 to fill the remainder of the original term.
