Gloucester restaurant inspections, Sept. 4-6
The Virginia Department of Health conducted inspections Sept. 4-6 in the Gloucester area.
Bethel Elementary School, 2991 Hickory Fork Road, received two violations in a Sept. 5 inspection. A critical violation of ware-washing equipment not reaching the minimum rinse temperature in order to sufficiently sanitize food contact surfaces was noted along with instructions to immediately discontinue use of the machine until it is operating in accordance with minimum requirements. A non-critical violation involving the arrangement of food containers in the refrigerator was corrected during the inspection.
Little Italy No. 2, 6685 Fox Center Parkway, was flagged with four violations during a routine inspection Sept. 4. Critical violations involved lack of written procedures for the use of time as a public health control with potentially hazardous foods (for example, marking food with a time after which it must be cooked, served or discarded) and not meeting the requirements of using a wiping cloth sanitizer to food contact surfaces. Non-critical violations in the report included needing to clean the surface of the ice chute on a drink dispenser, which was corrected during the inspection, and the outer opening of the establishment not being adequately protected against entry of insects and rodents
Six violations for Hong Kong, 2328 York Crossing Drive, were reported during a routine inspection Sept. 4. Four critical violations included food from damaged packaging being offered for sale or service, the need to separate raw foods of animal origin from raw ready-to-eat food, keeping hot chicken at improper temperatures and improper marking of food in the refrigerator. These violations, as well as two non-critical violations, were corrected during the inspection.
Cruisers Sports Bar & Grill, 4938 George Washington Memorial Highway, received four critical and one non-critical code violations during a routine inspection Sept. 4. The report included a violation of raw foods of animal origin stored over ready-to-eat food in the refrigerator, which was corrected during inspection, a non-functioning hand sink in the women's restroom, soiled microwave oven cavity, floor around stove in need of cleaning and a kitchen light bulb shield in need of being shielded or replaced with a coated or shatter-resistant bulb.
Tony & Milena's Pizzeria, 2364 George Washington Memorial Highway, was inspected Sept. 5. The report included one critical violation, use of chlorine sanitizer that does not meet requirements being applied to food contact surface, which was corrected during the inspection.
Las Tunas Mexican Restaurant, 6870 Main St., received four code violations in a Sept. 6 routine inspection. Two critical violations, including a repeat incidence of raw foods of animal origin being stored over ready-to-eat food in the refrigerator and prepared ready-to- eat food in a refrigerator not properly dated for disposition, were reported. These and two non-critical violations related to food being subject to environmental sources of contamination during preparation and the improper storage of in-use utensils between uses were corrected during the inspection.
A Sept. 4 follow-up inspection of Sonic Drive-In, 7060 George Washington Memorial Highway, resulted in no reported violations.
No code violations were reported during a routine inspection at Gloucester High School, 6680 Short Lane, during a Sept. 5 visit.
A routine inspection of Arby's, 7065 George Washington Memorial Highway, resulted in no reported violations Sept. 4.
Petsworth Elementary School, 10658 George Washington Memorial Highway, received a routine inspection Sept. 6 with no violations cited.
No violations were reported in a Sept. 6 routine inspection of Peasley Middle School, 2885 Hickory Fork Road.
The Virginia Department of Health conducted inspections Sept. 17-20 in the Gloucester area.Domino's Pizza of Gloucester, 6601 George Washington Memorial Highway, was cited with two critical and two non-critical violations in a Sept. 17 inspection. Violations included a handwash facility being used for purposes other than hand-washing, quaternary ammonia being applied to food contact surfaces that does not meet requirements, containers of cleaner not stored separately from insecticides or rodenticides and unpackaged food not being protected from environmental sources of contamination during preparation. All violations were corrected during inspection.
Sunrise Donuts, 4744 George Washington Memorial Highway, was inspected Sept. 17 with no reported violations.
Juan's Mexican Food and Cantina, 2310 George Washington Memorial Highway, was cited for four critical and five non-critical violations in a Sept. 18 routine inspection. Violations included an employee failing to wash their hands before preparing food, disposable towels not being provided in the kitchen's hand-washing lavatory, different types of raw animal foods stored in a way that may cause cross contamination, food not protected from contamination, food in a walk-in refrigerator being held at improper temperatures, improper storage of wiping cloths between uses, a walk-in refrigerator not functioning properly, a light bulb in the walk-in refrigerator in need of being shielded or replaced with a coated or shatter-resistant bulb and insufficient ventilation in the women's restroom to keep the room free of odors.
No violations were reported for Achilles Elementary School, 9306 Guinea Road, in a Sept. 18 routine inspection.
A routine inspection took place Sept. 18 at Abingdon Elementary School, 7087 Powhatan Drive. No violations were reported.
Olivia's in the Village, 6597 Main St., was cited for two critical and seven non-critical violations in a Sept. 19 routine inspection. Violations included cold food being held at improper temperatures and refrigerated, prepared, ready-to-eat food not being properly dated for disposition, both corrected during the inspection. Repeat violations included observed accumulations of grease deposits or other soil on food contact surfaces, uncovered outside waste containers, walls, floors and ceiling in kitchen area not maintained and light bulb in dry storage area not shielded, coated or otherwise shatter-resistant. Other violations included a refrigerator in a state of disrepair, a floor in need of repair or replacement in order to be easily cleanable and less than 50-foot candles of light in kitchen food prep area and under the hood.
Chick-fil-A, 6780 Walton's Lane, was cited for two violations in a Sept. 19 routine inspection. According to the report, a food employee failed to wash their hands before engaging in food preparation and equipment used for storage of food items was observed with visible accumulations of soil and debris. Both critical violations were corrected during the inspection.
Grand Kids, 3152 Hickory Fork Road, received a routine inspection Sept. 20 with no violations reported.
