Gloucester's Katie McSweeney earns Bronze Award
Katie McSweeney, of Gloucester, has earned the Bronze Award from the Girl Scouts.
McSweeney carried out a service project of at least fifteen hours. She implemented a Math-A-Thon program for third- to fifth-graders at Achilles Elementary School. The program supports St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She ordered the MathFun books and permission slips from St. Jude, taught the students about St. Jude and encouraged students to raise money for the cause. The students raised almost $1,000 to donate to St. Jude.
McSweeney received the honor on Oct. 3.
The Bronze Award is the highest achievement a Girl Scout Junior can reach.
