Achilles Elementary School newsletter receives award
"The Achilles Shield," the school and community newsletter of Achilles Elementary School in Hayes, was recently recognized with a national 2012 APEX Award for Public Excellence.
The awards program is an annual competition for publishers, editors, writers and designers who create print, Web, electronic and social media. APEX awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence, according to a press release.
"The Achilles Shield" was one of 23 publications to receive the award from 307 newsletters entered into the competition.
Entries came from schools, universities, hospitals, advertising companies and real estate agencies.
The Achilles newsletter is a bimonthly publication of the Gloucester Department of Community Education and is compiled and produced by Deborah Bone, community education coordinator. Editorial content is provided by Molly Broderson, principal of Achilles Elementary, and the school staff.
The newsletter is available on the Achilles Elementary School website by visiting gets.gc.k12.va.us under the "Schools" menu at the top of the page.
Achilles Elementary is at 9306 Guinca Road, Hayes.
