The 7th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line commemorates anniversary
The 7th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line will commemorate its 236th anniversary at the historic Gloucester Courthouse along Main Street in Gloucester.
Formed in 1776, the regiment will hold a colonial encampment in the court circle from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 26. The public is encouraged to participate in the scheduled events. People "recruited" for service will receive a certificate.
Activities will include troop formations, drilling of volunteers and roll call by experienced re-enactors dressed in authentic garb. Cannon firing will take place on the lawn of the First Presbyterian Church, across from the Courthouse Green, and a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at 3:30 in the court circle, in honor of members of the 7th Virginia Regiment and all veterans who have served their country.
The public is also invited to attend a celebration at 6 p.m. featuring a fiddler and traditional dance, held upstairs at the Gloucester Museum of History, 6539 Main St., Gloucester.
